The door opened. He gave a few coins he found in his pocket to the groom. The boy let the suitcase down in great relief and started going down the stairs putting the coins in his pocket. He didn’t switch on the light. His eyes got used to the red flash coming boldly from the neon letters of the sign vertically to the window. The h and the t were nervously flashing from the word hotel. So did his awkwardness but mostly his anxiety.
She was there. She was standing at the window gazing the night. Or she pretended to. She didn’t turn her back when she heard the door close. She stayed there, an enigmatic female figure in the twilight. She had her hair strictly tied in a bun. He distinguished a dress that caressed her body. She lit a cigarette. In the smoke rings that started shaping, he managed to read everything that she would never tell him. And for as long as that cigarette lasted he tried to see even through the words. He gazed her and he knew that the minute she would turn around or the minute he would approach her time would start unfolding backwards. The minutes would count the end of the night. And not only that.
She put it out in the almost full metal ashtray at the ledge. She turned around. Time was not so harsh on her. Her eyes were glowing and her look was as enigmatic as it was then. She looked at him so intensely that he felt completely naked from every thought. He took his suitcase and he started reducing the distance between them by walking slowly towards her. In every step he felt his heart beating stronger. He stood by her with a sense of a threat. He held her tight. There was no need for words. Everything was heard through her breath on his neck. A sense of oblivion and sweet return. Everything was like it was supposed to be.
He opened the worn leather straps of the suitcase. The water from the seven seas burst out forcefully and flooded the room. It came out from the cracks and the locks, down to the reception, stimulated Alfred’s tentacles, went down to the street. It continued to splash out without ending. She let her hair down loose at the whirl’s mercy. A female in her liquid element. He whispered something lost in the heat of the moment in her ear and felt her body melt in his arms as if it was drifted by the morning breeze. He kissed her hard. He had missed her warm mouth. This time she let her small thorns come out from her tongue. They bled his lips but he didn’t stop. He unzipped her dress and let it fall on the floor. He felt her smooth skin get hard and tightly wrap him. The toxic scent coming out from her neck had started to make him dizzy. Green stems became visible in her veins. Her long fingers ended in sharp nails with thorns. They inserted his skin as she gradually embracedhim as tight as she could.
Darkness sneaked into her dress. A big pink rose bloomed at her transparent chest.
Its petals opened and were spread on her neck and belly. Pointy leaves grew from her naked legs. And there she was, the female water flower showing him her true face for the first time. It would also be the last. She gave him everything she had promised and couldn’t take her eyes of him. She was waiting for his move. He couldn’t take a step back this time. They didn’t know who had trapped whom but it didn’t matter anyway. They played by the rules they had set and they would make it to the very end.
His hands couldn’t reach the small knife that would definitely set him free and make him stick to his mission. Her body squeezed him and her strength ruled him. He couldn’t resist her sensual part of hers that he had been waiting for so long and had haunted him so much. He set his hands loose with difficulty and the only thing that he did was to squeeze her smelling moist soil neck as hard as he could. She still looked at him deep into his eyes. In a powerful moment their breathings were united and then gradually began to fade out. A man and a female underwater flower in the last act of determination. They had reached the end of the game. There would be no winner. Like they knew it from the start, a quarter to eight years ago. Water began to dry from the floors, the walls, the stairs and the street.
