She stretched her branches with the early morning sun. A light breeze made her shiver to her last leaf. That spring provoked her as if it was playing with her, as if it was trying to wake up all those things taken from her. It doesn’t matter. Everything had softened inside her. Time had almost balanced everything. She nearly didn’t miss her former self. She had forgotten how it was like to comb her hair, to bite her nails awkwardly or to put on her make up to seduce him and not only him. Time had passed and had taken another dimension. At first she was terrified with the changes being held inside her. How her feet were turning into deep roots in the ground, how her body was becoming harsh full of knots, how small branches began to grow from her chest merging with her hands and becoming one, how tender leaves came out of her fingers and spread shamelessly .She was screaming with this unnatural pain until her voice was silenced.
She stared in shock till she completely lost her sight. She could stand losing both, being trapped in her new self and adjust. She couldn’t explain the reason or the cause of her transformation. Everything happened so fast. That spring left her only with her hearing.
She could feel the air blow, the children’s voices playing at the park, the strike of the ball, the demanding baby’s cry in the strollers, the elders’ small talk sitting at the bench close to her trunk, she could even hear the shy kisses of the young lovers and the promises they knew they wouldn’t keep. All theses sounds made her loneliness torturing. Unbearable. They made the night seem endless and the day deadly suffocating.
She stretched her branches with the early morning sun. Very carefully. Almost soundlessly. She didn't want to disturb the male body she had trapped in her trunk.
A long time had passed from his last trembling breath and his cries of agony. He must have fallen asleep exhausted. He as well as the previous men believed that someone would help them when her branches grasped them and firmly embraced them, trapping them. But no one was near by that late. It was the time when her loneliness became demanding. Almost imperative. She had to exorcise it in every way. To tame it. She wanted to feel the warmth of a male body. He was not the first and he surely wouldn’t be the last. That spring had almost taken everything from her.
